#14 Everton de Viña del Mar

Everton have two nicknames, and neither of them is the Toffees; los Ruleteros (the roulette players) and Los oro y cielo (the gold and sky) fucking lucky bastards. Yeah no real interesting logo backstory here just pure ubbridled badgery. GOLD YES. BIG LETTER YES. GOOD FONT YES. Some kind of stripe/shield combo yadda yadda, I know you don't read this (all five of you) just look at the pretty pictures.

#13 Club Atlético Newell's Old Boys

Ok, so this is a pretty awful badge, but it's always good for a laugh and I couldn't be arsed finding a proper decent badge and I hadn't updated this for a while so you're stuck with a cheap joke. HOW'D YA LIKE THAT?

Honours:

Argentine Primera División - 5

#11 Club Deportivo Águila

Yeah we haven't posted anything for a few days because we've been busy. definitely not because there's less interesting South American football badges than we thought. Yeah this one's not even South American but it's got a fuckin' eagle on it, and it's not The Eagles so it's awesome. I don't think abyone really thought about this badge to be honest, look at it, it would be som much better without the triangle and the flag and the A and shit in the middle but I like that it's like yeah we could have an awesome badge but here's some garish graphic instead.

#10 Associação Portuguesa de Desportos

I don't know why I like this badge/I'm tired and can't be arsed to find a better one. Does exactly what it says on the tin. The team's called Portuguesa and the badge looks like a bit of the Portuguese flag. Pop, bang, lovely, we're done.

#9 Club Cienciano

Continuing the theme of Peruvian badges featuring massive letters here's Club Cienciano's effort. Keeping it simple, standard colours, it could be a little dull but the second C positioned inside the first gives it something interesting. Yeah that's all folks.

#8 General Caballero SC

I think I just have a thing for gold, probably William Reid's fault. General Caballero are a team I know literally nothing about but the combination of the colours of Paraguay (red, white and blue) with the classy gold shield with funny red bar at the top is just nice to look at. Odd font for the club initials and I'm sold. Not the greatest badge of all time but all round not a bad showing.

Honours:

Paraguayan División Intermedia: - 5
1928, 1962, 1970, 1986, 2010.

Tercera División de Paraguay - 2
1993, 2000.

#7 Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas

Ignoring the badge for a second... Botafogo's nicknames are Fogão, Estrela Solitária and O Glorioso. That's the Great Fire, the Lone Star or the Glorious One to you and me. Mega. This has been Botafogo's crest since 1942 but the lone star has been featured on the rowing club's badge since 1894, whilst the shape of the shield comes from the Botafogo Football Club's badge which was pretty good too but not as awesome as this. It's is just a black and white shield with a star on it but my word have they pulled it off. It could have been amateurish, it could have been dull but no, it's noble, classy and striking.

Honours:

Campeonato Brasileiro Série A - 2
1968, 1995.

1967, 1968, 1997, 2006, 2009, 2010.

#6 Club Atlético Lanús

Lanus' badge is awesome a) because it's round but not round which is a touch of idiosyncracy b) because burgundy is a colour I have a soft spot for, hence the inclusion of the granate and c) whisper it but I have a fetish for the font on every single Argentinian badge (well not everyone but this one and like Velez and that) I guess it means something but yeah whateverrr.

Honours:

Argentine Primera División - 1
Apertura 2007.

Copa CONMEBOL - 1
1996

Second Division Championship - 4

#5 Rampla Juniors Fútbol Club

Now I'm not an especially big fan of this badge but it is rather different to most. Apparently Rampla's colours might come from an Italian boat being the first into the harbour when they were founded (much like Boca Juniors) but the rest of the badge is beyond me... water and a hill with a building and the sun. And a massive diamond in the middle, I just about get RJFC...

Honours:

Uruguayan Primera División - 1
1927.

Segunda División Uruguay - 3
1944, 1980, 1992.

#4 Audax Italiano La Florida

As you may have guessed Audax Italiano were founded by Italians in Santiago in 1910; however, they focused more on cycling than football which is, I guess, where the wheel in their badge comes from. Obviously I'm a sucker for massive gold birds and this one is exquisite, well done Audax.

Honours:

Liga Chilena de Fútbol Primera División - 4
1936, 1946, 1948, 1957.

Campeonato de Apertura - 1
1941

#3 Club Universidad Nacional A.C.

Club Universidad Nacional A.C., otherwise known as Pumas (or Pumas UNAM) are a football team based in Mexico City. Ok so it's not South America but look how amazing that badge is! Pumas' old badges are horrendous, truly awful, but this one is superb. Oh and I forgot the best thing about the badge... IT TAKES UP THE WHOLE OF THE FRONT OF THE KIT. Special.

Honours:

Primera División de México - 7
1976-77, 1980-81, 1990-91, Clausura 2004, Apertura 2004, Clausura 2009, Clausura 2011.

#2 Sport Club do Recife

Sport Club do Recife were founded in 1905 by Náutico players, who disagreed with the club's racist policy of excluding black players. In terms of the club crest, Recife boast two shields which is always a winner and a massive gold lion on a background of red and black which apparently "represents the fighting spirit and the determination of the club's supporters". Another great South American football badge.

Honours:

Campeonato Brasileiro Série A - 1
1987.
Copa do Brasil - 1
2008.
Campeonato Brasileiro Série B - 1
1990.

Copa/Campeonato do Nordeste - 2

#1 Universitario de Deportes

First up on SA Football Badges is Universitario from Peru. The most successful football team in Peru, Universitario were founded in 1924 by staff and students of the National University of San Marcos. The crest was designed by Dr. Luis Málaga and according to wikipedia is "a red U inside a red circle" however any meaning attributed to it has been lost to the ghosts of time...
